Derrick McGary - Ward 1

Mr. McGary was appointed by the council in February of 1997, at the age of 21, to fill the unfinished term of the late Reverend Wade Dizer. He became the youngest Councilmember in the history of Texarkana. He was then elected to a full two-year term in May 1998. He also served as Mayor Pro-tempore 2001-2002.

Community Involvement:

  • Mr. McGary has helped initiate many projects here in the city, such as the Weed and Seed program, curb and gutter projects, Town Hall meetings, and many other city-sponsored events. He is also an active member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
