- What is CDBG?
The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is a federally funded program though the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The primary purpose of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is the development of viable urban communities by providing decent housing, a suitable living environment and expanded economic opportunities, principally for persons of very low- and low-income.
The city of Texarkana plans to use CDBG funds for the following projects for PY2018 (Oct 1, 2018 - Sept 30, 2019) as approved in 2018 Annual Action Plan / 2018-2022 Consolidated Plan:
- Housing Rehabilitation (properties already selected)
- Homebuyers Assistance : Down payment & closing cost assistance
- Public Services : Youth programs, life skills, job training, coordinated services for homeless
- Public Improvements & Infrastructure : Sidewalks, ADA accessibility, tree planting
- Revolving Loan Fund : Financial assistance for economic development of businesses in downtown
- Public Facilities & Parks : Park improvements
