Program Overview
- What is CDBG?
The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is a federally funded program though the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The primary purpose of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is the development of viable urban communities by providing decent housing, a suitable living environment and expanded economic opportunities, principally for persons of very low- and low-income.
Funding Eligibility
In order to be eligible for CDBG funding, a project must meet one of the three National Objectives. The principle National Objective is that the project must benefit persons of low to moderate income. The projects must also be an eligible activity. Further program information can be found at the CDBG Program - Guide to National Objectives and Eligible Activities for Entitlement Communities website.
Apply for Funding
Each March, April and May, the City of Texarkana holds public hearings to receive community input and applications for the next year’s CDBG funds. Applications received are reviewed for eligibility and evaluated to determine which projects will receive funding.
